The following is a letter from Don Chard, NDP Critic for the Environment, flagging an issue relating to the progress of the Wilderness Areas Protection Act through the House. If you need more information, call me (424-2188) or Don Ż and please pass this letter along to others you feel would benefit from knowing. Thank you. DON CHARD, MLA, DARTMOUTH SOUTH November 26, 1998 Donald Chard, MLA NDP Caucus Office Suite 1001, 1660 Hollis Street Centennial Building, PO Box 1617 Halifax, Nova Scotia B3J 2Y3 Dear friends of the environment: The environmental community in Nova Scotia has been anxiously awaiting the passage of Bill 24, the Wilderness Areas Protection Act, which is now before the House. The bill has passed second reading and is currently before the Law Amendments Committee. The Liberals and Tories are pushing hard to end this sitting as soon as possible, and I am concerned that the bill may not advance through law amendments into third reading. I urge you to contact the Minister of the Environment and/or the Premier to indicate that you want to see this legislation passed this Fall. The more pressure that can be brought to bear in this matter, the better. To contact the Premier: Hon. Russell MacLellan, Q.C. Premier Tel: 424-6600 or 1-800-267-1993 FAX: 424-7648 E-mail: premier@gov.ns.ca To contact the Minister of the Environment Hon. Don Downe Minister of the Environment Tel: 424-5720 FAX: 424-0635 Thank you for your concern. If you have any questions, please donąt hesitate to contact me at 424-5783 or FAX 424-0504. Sincerely, Don Chard, MLA NDP Critic for the Environment
