Here is a chance for a bit of quick activism. I urge you to call in to
the Daily News Hotline to respond on ths issue, or e-mail them.

Youth For Social Justice had a protest on this issue on Friday. It was
covered in the Saturday Daily News on page 3. The picture at the head of
the article shows my son, John, reading the proclamation. He was "Little
John" for the protest done as Robin Hoods distributing food back to the
poor. I'm so proud.

Gentle Sust-Mar subsciber:
There is still time to put in a response to this. But you must act now
before noon today. You can call in or telephone in a response.

Local ill effects of this measure will be less chances of local produce
and other products being used by Sobeys (or IGA) as they get larger. Plus
higher prices and less choice. I'm certain you can come up with many more
reasons yourselves, so please call in now!

Will Sobeys deal help or hurt?

Sobeys' attempt to take over the firm that flies the IGA banner shows
Atlantic Canadian businesses are ready to compete in the big leagues.
Some, however, are worried the takeover will mean less competition and
                                                   higher grocery prices.
Are you pleased to see this region's companies stepping up, or more
worried about the effect at the supermarket?
Call the Hotline at 468-2784 or e-mail to [1]
sbornais@hfxnews.southam.ca and tell us what you think and - as
                                               briefly as possible - why.
To be directly quoted, please leave your name and phone number.
The Hotline will be open until Monday at noon.
The results will be in Wednesday's paper.
