THE TENTH ANNUAL ATLANTIC EARTH FESTIVAL JUNE 6-7, GEORGE DIXON CENTRE, HALIFAX What are you doing on the weekend of June 6th and 7th? You could be having a fabulous time at the Atlantic Earth Festival's tenth anniversary festivities! Come celebrate the Earth, take in a stream of wonderful musicians and entertainers, and learn a whole lot more about the issues affecting our environment and our communities. Throughout the two day event there will be live music and theatre, interactive displays and workshops (including pottery, hand drumming and belly dancing), presentations, vendors, delicious food, and children's activities. Not bad for a festival with free admittance for the general public! The Atlantic Earth Festival is an annual event produced by the Atlantic Earth Festival Association, a non-profit society whose mandate is to promote environmental awareness by providing a forum for concerned individuals, groups and organizations to share their knowledge and perspectives. It is also a celebration and an opportunity to see how people in our communities are working towards positive change. This year the Atlantic Earth Festival brings several exciting and significant changes. Rather than occurring in mid-summer, the tenth anniversary festival will be taking place outdoors/indoors on the grounds of the George Dixon Centre in north-end Halifax, 2pm through 11pm, Saturday June 6, and noon through 7pm, Sunday June 7, as a finale to the province wide environment week activities. Another change is that the Earth Festival is working with and moving into a centre that is already active in and connected to a vibrant surrounding community. The connections made here will build further on the festival's established themes of celebration, education and community involvement. The main stage and entertainment areas will be located outdoors on the spacious Dixon Centre fields. Displays, information tables and workshops can set up indoors, although some of these may want to move outdoors with favourable weather. There will also be a small second stage inside the main auditorium featuring some acoustic performances. All indoor scheduling can proceed regardless of rain or wind! We would like to invite you, the environmentally concerned organizations and individuals in our communities, to take part in the festival, and to think about whether you or groups of you might be able to put together displays, workshops and/or activities that will creatively interact with and engage the public while spreading your specific message about environmental awareness and action. The cost for a non-profit group to set up a display is $25, or two organizations can share a table for $40. You will also get listed in our yearly Resource Directiory within the Festival Program (approx. 2000 distributution - program deadline is May 10!!). One 5-foot table and two chairs will be provided for your display. Display/workshop hours are 2pm to 7pm on Sat 6, and noon to 5pm on Sun 7. You have the option of attending all weekend or any part of it. Please provide your own backdrops, extension cords and other display/presentation items if needed, and please come early for setup. Also please let us know if there are any affiliated organizations you want to set up displays beside. Your organization can also get listed in the Program Directory for $10 if it is unable to attend the festival. We welcome and encourage interested persons and organizations to contact us, discuss ideas with any of our volunteers, and/or attend any Earth Festival meetings (Tuesdays, 8:00pm, Oxfam Office, 2099 Gottingen). AND we are always interested in recruiting new volunteers! It's a great way to develop skills and contacts and you'll meet some really fun people in the process! We offer the Atlantic Earth Festival as a vehicle for you to promote environmental awareness and much more. We are, like so many of you, entirely run by volunteers. Please contact us (see below) and tell us how you can participate. Remember - the whole point of the Earth Festival is to provide an enjoyable forum from which you can share your perspectives and knowledge!
