Hi Janet. When you open the Spybot Search and Destroy program
(which you'll find by clicking on the Windows Start button then selecting
All Programs then select the Spybot folder and click on the Spybot program
there), you'll see the Search for Updates button.

Click on it and a new window will open called Spybot S&D Updater.
Click on any of the site mirrors you see listed. Click the Continue
button. If there are updates listed, click the Download button. The
updates will download. When they are all done, click the Exit button. The
Updater window will close.

On the Spybot program window, click on the Immunize button. If the
scan shows you are unprotected then click the Immunize button on the top
of the Spybot window, above where it says in blue: Apply passive
protection. This will add the new items to the Protected list and your
system will be protected from all the new threats.

Spybot recommends weekly updates but in my experience updating it
once every three or four weeks is fine.
