Index of Subjects Hi everyone, Below are some recent notes I received that might be of interest. With regard to the note on 'oursourcing,' and in light of our purchase of the NT server, I was wondering if there might be anything that Chebucto Community Net might be able to take on in terms of 'outsource support' in the HRM for companies, organizatons, etc. ? (This would be based on our own IT skill inventory). These would be specific IT services we could provide on a fee or retainer basis and be able to pay/train students and possibly (depending on workload) hire more staff to manage on a regular basis and provide further support to Chebucto's service in the community. Just some thoughts - appreciate some brainstorming on this. Cheers, Leo ------ IDC Research: 33 Percent of Households to Have Broadband Access 62 percent of the population in the US will be online in the US by 2003, up from 28 percent in 1998, according to research from IDC. Globally the online population will grow from 4 percent today to 11 percent in 2003 when 500 million people will have Internet access. The surge in numbers will be fueled by exponential growth in ecommerce and the ubiquitous availability of cheap killer app Internet access devices. Speaking at the IDC Internet Executive Forum, IDC predicted that by 2003 80 percent of all business transactions will be carried out online and USD2 million will change hands every minute. The amount of users with permanent dedicated Internet access will grow from 29 percent today to 53 percent in 2003. 33 percent of households will have broadband high-speed access. <http://www.idcresearch.com> ----- E-COMMERCE Archives: <http://www.nua.ie/surveys/index.cgi?f=FS&cat_id=14> ******************************************************************** E-Commerce Times: 85 Percent of Online Consumers are Satisfied 85 percent of all online consumers are "very satisfied" with their shopping experience according to a study conducted by Odyssey L.P., a market research company based in California. This is according to the results of a new survey conducted by Engage Technologies and NVision, an Internet Consultancy based in the UK. In addition, the survey found that four out of every five visitors to the average Web site do not return. According to NVision, this is very bad news for ebusiness as, in their opinion, 70 percent of surfers would be more likely to buy from a site they visited often. The survey was conducted to ascertain the level of stickiness in ecommerce sites and as a result of the findings the two companies have agreed to form a partnership to help companies make their sites more sticky and build loyalty online. <http://www.nvision.co.uk> -------------- _________________________________ Leo J.
