Received these stats recently from Laura Jantek at the Halifax Regional
Library - time to update our info on this and further, what its
implications might be for CCN.

INTERNET USE BY HOUSEHOLDS 1998

In Canada 1998, internet use from any location by households with at least
one regular user increased to 35.9% (4.3 million) of households from 29.4%
in 1997.  Internet use from the home in 1998 increased by 44% to 2.7
million households (22.6% of all households)  over 1997.  This is virtually
the same as internet use from the workplace (23.3% of all households).
Internet use from school increased to 12% from 9% in 1997.

In Nova Scotia 1998, internet use from any location by households with at
least one regular user increased to 37.9%  (139,757) of households from
32.2% in 1997. Internet use from the home in 1998 increased to 23.7%
(87,394 ) of households from 14.3% 1997.  Internet use from the workplace
which increased to 22.9% (84,444) from 20.7% in 1997. Internet use from
school increased to 17.4%  (64,163) from 14.3% in 1997.

In Halifax (CMA) in 1998, internet use from any location by households with
at least one regular user increased to 50.2% (71,057) of households from
39.2% in 1997.  Internet use from the home in 1998 increased to 33.8%
(47,843) of households from 19.2% in 1997.  Internet use from work
increased to 33.7% (47,702) of households from 30.9% in 1997.  Internet use
from school increased to 21.5% (30,433) of households from 15.5% in 1997.
