The last federal budget referred to volnet, an Industry Canada initiative to help the volunteer sector to access and take advantage of the internet. Bernie Hart, David Trueman, and I have ensured that Industry Canada knows about CCN and the work we have done to date. We've tried to convince them that volnet should build upon the positive things that community nets have done rather than develop new (and competing) infrastructures. I met with I.C. staff last week while in Ottawa and found out that they have a very ambitious time frame for rolling out their work; beginning April 24. I left the meeting thinking that they (at least *some* of their staff) understand and agree with the point that we've been trying to make.
