Introduction:
The superb LEI proposed by Porcella et al (1979) is a rare composite trophic state index that includes Total Phosphorus (TP), Total Nitrogen (TN), Chlorophylla (Cha), Secchi Disk (SD), macrophyte coverage, and dissolved oxygen values in lakes. Our research team feels it is a unique index of considerable value although it has rarely been used, perhaps because it is not well known. Hence, we are publicizing this at this late point in time.
We have applied this, primarily, through undergrad/grad students at Dalhousie University in a couple of projects one of which was the project on Bissett and Russell Lakes in the Halifax region of Nova Scotia, Canada. We plan to expand the application as time/priorities allow us in the future.
