How To Disable Call Waiting

If your telephone service has the "Call Waiting" feature, you should disable it before you use a modem to contact Chebucto Community Net.

Disabling call waiting is important because if somebody does call you in the middle of a session, the click made by the phone will disturb the transmission and cause garbage to appear on your screen or in your file.


The procedure for doing this varies from area to area. On many systems this can be done by putting *70,, before the number you are dialing. Consult your local telephone directory for the procedure in your telephone exchange.
Here is an example of a modem command using the above command to dial from a standard residence while disabling the call-waiting feature (for this call only):

ATDT*70,494-8006
