Index of Subjects James, The gray-scale icons are intended to indicate links in the standard button-bar that are not accessible from the current page, e.g. if you have a contacts page linked from a main page, then the main page would have the coloured contacts icon, the contacts page itself would have the gray version to indicate in some subtle way that you are already there.
