It seems to me that the load skyrockets when /var/log fills up.  zmailer
and httpd write a bunches in there so when it hits 100%, speciall
processing is needed to let them continue.

Greater attention should be paid to disk space availability.  Maybe even
shut down zmailer && httpd automatically if the disk partition fills up.
At least people could still log in, access the Internet and think they are
sending mail, even if it doesn't go anywhere for a while. Local access
would still be available, but http access would be denied.
