Many thanks to David Trueman for the passwd-batch routine. This fixed the
password change.

I now have some questions regarding changing an assigned login ID to a custom
login id. First, this does work. I can go into that admin pages, enter
in the custom login id, and after passwd-batch runs (or whatever it calls),
the login is changed. The user directory's are there, and all seems fine.

I like the way the user doesn't need to know this ahead of time, their old
account is still there, and the new one has the same password.
- I do have one problem here, my users will get kicked off the system,
instead of getting asked for the new login id. "login" is the problem
here, and even if I try it from a shell account, I immediately get
disconnected. This is not too bad as long as the user got the message
about the new account. I've tried the linux-admin list about this, and
the suggestions I got back were all to use "su" instead of "login"

Now the real question:
The old user account in the password file is changed to ex:
aa315:djfkadfasf:9998:4998:bruce proper:/csuite/to_delete:/csuite/bin/shell

which appears to be a problem. All deleted users appear to get uid 9998.
If I change 2 accounts at the same time to be custom login id's, both
users will get the same message in /csuite/to_delete. The message will be
the one corresponding to the first 9998 account found when scanning the
passwd file.

I've checked this out by displaying the $USER variable at the top of the
csuite/bin/shell file. Sure enough, it doesn's necessarily match the
login id I used. It always shows the first login id with the same uid.

Any suggestions on this one??
David
