landon CSuite Install Report

Install time: Jan 10, 1997 to Jan 11, 1997
Install system: landon.chebucto.ns.ca

We had a successful install of CSuite on landon, during which we certainly
learned a fair bit about installing CSuite on a Debian Linux system. The
script "csbuild" has an error in it that inhibits the install, but that
looks like it is a typo more than anything.

The final line of csbuild should probably read:
"lynx -cfg=lynx.cfg build.html" instead of "lynx -cfg lynx.cfg build.html"
Switching to the former allowed the install to proceed normally.

We did not find any other major problems. Some minor notes:
- In the README file, the version number is not the latest.
- Install process should recommend using /var/csuite as root dir.
- Notes on modifying /etc/passwd & /etc/group are somewhat faulty and
unclear.
- Could we include a list of information will be asked for during the
install process?
- In the Pre-Install notes, the list of packages required should include
the "sudo" package.
- In the "System Characterization" section, it did NOT alert us to the
fact that we did not have yacc installed (which, as it turns out, is
rather important).
- This raised the question of whether or not it was possible to do a
partial install of parts that were not successfully installed?
- Some basic information on using RCS would be very useful to those who
are not familiar with it.
Post-Install:
- Information and instructions on editing and using .htaccess, htpasswd
and htgroup is necessary.
- Could mention that running updatedb after the install would be
benificial.
- Was necessary for us to change the path in /var/csuite/tq/tq from
/csuite to /var/csuite

The complete notes on this install (and subsequent installs) will be
available somewhere online in the near future. Any questions about this
install can be directed to either James Fifield or Andrew Dacey.
