Hello all, On our Csuite system, we have never allowed normal users to connect via ftp. I would now like to enable this. We have an older version of csuite installed and running on our live system, but I also now have a test machine where I have csuite 1 from the CD installed and compiled. So, I grabbed ftpd and ftpaccess from the test machine, and copied them to /csuite/etc/ftpd. I made the appropriate entry in inetd.conf, and gave inet a -HUP. All seems fine, and I can log in with regular user accounts The question: How does the modified ftpd restrict users to their home directory?? When I log in as a regular user, I try cd .., and cd /, and cd /csuite, to test a few, and the message I get is 550 access to /csuite is restricted. However when I test logging in with root, I can cd to any location I want. Does ftpd check the directory permissions?? Or does it modify the root location for csuite users?? Should I be checking the permissions on all of my sub-directories to make sure that there isn't any set wrong?? ex: what if I have a directory under /home/support/subdir that has wide open permissions?? Will they have access to this area if they know the location?
