A further note on the strange character-translation saga...

I added a few more test lines to my test file to see if character entity=20
NAMES get treated the same as numbers.

Here is the Added HTML and the results I got from those lines when=20
viewing and printing the file both as a local file and as a remote file.
Apparently names and numbers get different treatment.

HTML:

Test: do named entities get changed the same as numbered ones?
<BR>
<BR>
&amp;egrave; =3D &amp;#232;, &amp;eacute; =3D &amp;#233; ??
<BR>
<BR>
&egrave; =3D &#232;, &eacute; =3D &#233; ??

Viewed with this link and printed to a file in my CCN directory:
<a href=3D"file://localhost/ccn/home/80/af380/public_html/charset.html">
  charset.html -- local link</a>
  =20
   Test: do named entities get changed the same as numbered ones?
  =20
   &egrave; =3D &#232;, &eacute; =3D &#233; ??
  =20
   =E8 =3D =E8, =E9 =3D =E9 ??

Viewed with this link and printed to a file in my CCN directory:
<a href=3D"http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~af380/charset.html">
  charset.html -- http:// link</a>

  =20

   =E8 =3D =E9, =E9 =3D =E8 ??

As Alice said, "Curiouser and curiouser!"
