There are Linux kernel versions that are considered "production" releases. I was running kernel 1.2.8 and last upgraded to 1.2.13 both serve me well. The current "production" kernel is 2.0.27. My PC running Linux is a stand alone machine. Perhaps FreeBSD might appeal to you? It's development is slower though. > > I also am trying to determine the specifications for the machine. > > We have a small system by freenet standards with hundreds of users > > rather than thousands and currently only 16 telephone lines. Lots of RAM will make the system perform better than lots of speed. _________________________________________________________ Kevin Georgison E-Mail: mailto:keving@freenet.mb.ca Or: mailto:georgkev@mbnet.mb.ca Or: http://www.mbnet.mb.ca/~georgkev Technical Services Committee Blue Sky Community Networks of Manitoba Inc. http://www.winnipeg.freenet.mb.ca _________________________________________________________
