Alpha 5 is due out very soon. At today's meeting we thought that Friday
was the most likely target. In order to speed release, we are going to
complete testing only on Linux and issue a minor update when/if necessary
after testing on SunOS and Solaris 2.5 (within a week). We have made
considerable progress on systematic testing of the installed product
so it should be much more trouble-free on installation. We are, though,
still talking alpha.

Alpha 6/Beta 1 is due out in mid-January. Whether we call it Alpha or
Beta will depend on the state of the documentation at that point.

Also in Beta 1 will be a first cut at upgrade support, so that you will
not be completely on your own in making the transition from one version
to another.

Roughly speaking, Beta 2 will be a month after Beta 1 and then Release 1.0
will follow. At that point, we will have fairly comprehensive documentation,
much more extensive testing completed and numerous loose ends tied up.
We are very excited, too, by the beginnings of bilingual support which
will be complete by 1.0.
