As Dr. T saw it... From the start of the game SMU was able to get shots in the paint, while Acadia had to settle for outside shooting. Midway throught the half Acadia's interior defense stiffened due to strong play by Trojanowski and McLeod, and they came from Strong inside for SMU were Toulouse, Janes and McClintock. Excellent shooting for Acadia by Trojanowski, and for SMU by Taussig and Toulouse. A terrific first half. SMU quickly took the lead in the second half on Toulouse's stronginside play, and great passes from Taussig. Minutes into the second half SMU took over under the boards. Leading 48-41 they got consecutive threes from Taussig, Henry and Thomas to take a 16 point lead. Taussig did a superb job of directing the attack, and making defensive steals. SMU's Lloyd Thomas played tough on Acadia's Seaborn all afernoon, keeping him below his scoring average. Toulouse and Janes' strong banging under the boards gradually wore down Acadia's defense. Dr. T's players of the game were Tronajowski for all-round play in the first half, and Cory Janes for his work under the boards. In the final analysis, Saint Mary's physically wore down Acadia.

From Dr. T's scribbled notes: The first half saw Saint Mary's dominate through shooting and rebounding. For Dal Danny Stone worked hard defensively and under the boards. Inside game gave the edge to Saint Mary's in the first half. Award for most spectacular foul to SMU's Lloyd Thomas. SMU held their 15 point lead throughout the second half, led by Jonah Taussig. Strongdefensive play by Cory Janes and Lloyd Thomas kept Dal at bay. Danny Stone for player of thegame for Dal, not just for offensive work, but for his hustle at both ends of the court.

Dr. T. again... Acadia picked up from where they left off last night, led by effective work of Murray McLeod assisted in the shooting by Mark Seaborn. Sam Worrell had strong first half. St. Xavier started slowly with trouble scoring. Fred Perry showed good anticipation defensively and made several sucessful drives to the basket. Up to half time Acadia has shown no ill effects from their game last night. Spirited play under the baskets was in evidence. Early in the second half St Xaviers shooting picks up, but Acadia's strong rebounding helps them keep the lead. Late in the half Trojanowski and Seaborn,s shooting stretches Acadia's lead. Acadia finishes the game strongly both offensively and defensively. Foul shooting for Acadia sealed the victory.

Dr. T's Comments: A well played first half with Acadia taking advantage of fast break opportunities while UNB used their set offense effectively. Kreiner for UNB was effective scoring and in in the rebounding area. Trojanowski for Acadia shot well and Messenger worked hard on guarding Kreiner. Foul shooting for Acadia was questionable at times. In the second half, Murray McLeod for Acadia played a strong defensive game, worked hard at setting screens and rebounding. He took over after Trojanowski got into foul trouble early in the second half. UNB was forced to take more outside shots which were not dropping. Acadia on the other hand was able to work the ball in deep. Strong defensive game by Messenger for Acadia showed down the inside game of UNB. Dr. T's Report: Game started slowly with poor shooting and scores that were made tended to come from scrambles. Dal strongest when driving the basket for layups while Cape Breton relied more on the three point shot. Mike Wall Danny Stone and Benny Edison (good anticipation defensively) strong on the defensive boards and Brian Alyward played a strong game for UCCB. Danny Stone played a strong defensive half guarding Cape Bretons point guard. Second half highlighted by strong rebounding by CB and more effective offensive on the Dal side. CB inadvised passing under the basket late in the game may have cost them the game. With three inutes left one point between the teams Dal missed foul shots late in the game . Kept it close but Cape Breton was unable to sink the ball. My picks as Stars of the game Danny Stone defense and passing and Momberquette for defense and rebounding.
