Report of the Secretary

Annual General Meeting, June 11, 2005

The first Annual General Meeting of the Nova Scotia Chemists’ Society (NSCS) was held on September 25, 2004 at the NRC Institute for Marine Biosciences in Halifax.  In attendance were seventeen Chemists/Chemical Technologists, seven of whom were original members of the Society (prior to registration of the NSCS with the Registry of Joint Stocks on March 9, 2004).  At the AGM the following members were elected as Directors and Officers of the Society:

Jim Frazee              President

Joyce Milley           Vice-President

Bill Thorpe             Secretary

Jocelyne Hellou      Treasurer

The following members were elected as Directors-at-Large of the Society:

Gordon Boyce              John Courtneidge

Susan Boyd                Clive Elson

During the past nine months, the Board of Directors has met six times, with attendance being consistently high at all of the meetings.  I would like to thank Susan Boyd, Gordon Boyce and Clive Elson for taking the minutes in my absence.  The Board has concentrated on recruitment of new members, and to help in this effort, we now have an informative brochure and a web site, which is in operation (http://nscs.chebucto.org/Main.htm).  There are presently twenty-six paid-up members of the NSCS.

Respectfully submitted,

J.W. (Bill) Thorpe, P.Chem.

       Secretary
