Modernization of Workstation-based Nowcasting Tools

Summary

Modernization of forecaster workstation-based nowcasting tools is a high priority for National Meteorological Services because the capabilities of such tools determine and will continue to determine the appreciable levels of quality of service of National Meteorological Services.

  • Forecaster workstation design should permit easy and quick incorporation of new nowcasting tools. For this, modular design should be used as much as possible.
  • Workstation-based nowcasting tools should be designed to enable synergistic use of the complementary nowcasting abilities of expert forecasters and artificial intelligence (AI). For this, the different needs and abilities of forecasters and AI should be initial considerations in design.
