We set a double-reefed main and a single-reefed fores’l in the outer reaches of the harbour and by 1130 were out in fresh to strong westerlies with seas building to 4 to 6 feet. The first tack took us across Hermitage Bay, toward Pass Island, where we could see into Bay d'Espoir. The conditions were not enjoyable for either vessel or crew so when we found ourselves off the entrance to Facheux Bay around 1500 hours we decided to head in and find an anchorage.
