We spent the afternoon beating out the Great Bras d'Or Channel, getting used to the vessel and her idiosyncrasies. We also reviewed the rules of right of way when meeting other vessels. One of the vessels we met was a gypsum carrier bound to Little Narrows for lading. |

We elected to anchor between a fine beach and a rocky islet along the western channel shore in 2 fathoms of water at Beinn Scalpie. Within sight of Seal Island Bridge, this was a fine spot to wait for a fair tide. We all went ashore and set about gathering firewood for our cooking purposes. |

Our first “shore dinner” included vegetables expertly prepared and cooked in aluminum foil in the hot coals by Peter, accompanied by three steaks cooked over the fire to everyone’s hungry satisfaction. We appreciated the help of a mink that arrived to help clean up. |
