There was a men's basketball team named for the 1980 Olympics. The team qualified for the Olympics at the Pre-Olympics Qualifying Tournament held in Puerto Rico. They beat Cuba, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil and Uruguay to go 5-0 before losing to Puerto Rico in their last game.
Puerto Rico also finished the round-robin no-playoffs tournament at 5-1. Thus Puerto Rico was first and Canada came second.
