Horatio C. Crowell's illustrious career began with The Halifax Chronicle in 1912. He became one of the best-known newspaper men in Canada's Maritime provinces during and after World War I. He served as a reporter and special correspondent in Belgium, enlisted in 1915 with the Scotia Highlanders, was injured and returned to Canada.
Later he became Secretary of the West Indies Trade Commission and an authority on the subject. Eventually he became the Press Representative of the Canadian National Railway for the Atlantic Region.
He passed away in February 1930 after a prolonged illness.
