When New Scotland (Nova Scotia) was formed, its first inhabitants, the Micmac people, were already here. The French were the first to settle, followed by the English, the Scots, the Irish, the Germans, and many others. Together these ethnic groups make up the cultural diversity of Nova Scotia.
When Prof. A. Wayne MacKay became President of the Clan MacKay Society of New Scotland in 1982, he encouraged clan members to become involved in the Multicultural Council of Halifax-Dartmouth and, through them, in the Multicultural Association of Nova Scotia.
An article on Scots in Multiculturalism was published by Prof. A. Wayne
MacKay, in The Clansman, October and December 1988, and is
included in the Clan MacKay home pages. See Clan MacKay and Multiculturalism
