Catholic Fish
Roman Catholics were forbidden to eat meat on Friday; fish was
recommended. Those who did not like fish, thought of the beaver.
Like a fish, the beaver swims and lives under water. Having
these qualities of fish, it was deemed to be fish for Friday's meal.
