Wanderers Grounds, Halifax, Nova Scotia
Saturday, July 6, 1996
Organized by the The Scots: North British Society
The Clan Campbell Society - Nova Scotia
served as the 1996 Host Clan for the Metro Halifax Highland Games and
Scottish Festival.
John R. Campbell and Keith Campbell strategically arranged the clan tents
to allow all clansfolk a good view of the piping/drumming and highland
dancing competitions which went on all day. From the shade provided by
their tents, they had "front row seats" for the pipe band competitions and
massed band finale performance.
The Open Piper of the Day Trophy, donated annually by
Clan Campbell Society - Nova Scotia, was awarded to Jack MacLean of
The Halifax Police Pipe and Drum Band. Winners of this
prestigious trophy through the years are recorded at:
Open Piper of the Day Trophy.
Scottish Country and Irish dancing demonstrations took place in the nearby
Seniors' Pavilion. Games organizers commented after the Festival that,
since the weather cooperated so pleasantly, these demonstrations would
have enjoyed a larger audience if they had been held outdoors.
