Gaelic Name: MacMhuirich (Place-name in Morayshire)
The Murray Clan Society was founded in Scotland in 1896 by the late Alistar Erskine-Murray, 13th Lord Elibank. It has grown through the years since.
After the success of Nova Scotia's 1979 International Gathering of the Clans, the ancient spirit of clanship became rekindled in the Scots, giving birth to various clan organizations.
On August 1, 1981, among the gentle Highland Hills of Earltown, the Clan Murray Society of Nova Scotia was formed to "uphold and sustain" the traditions of our race and clan, and "founded in honour of the Clan, and in revered memory of our Grandsires, when all lived in relation to their chief. What better way can there be for the ancient spirit of clanship than a living and active organization by the object of upholding and sustaining the framework and traditions of our race and people." (constitution). The Clan Murray Society of Nova Scotia was incorporated on October 19, 1989.
