In the Beginning

On the ninth day God called Gabriel to him and said. Guess what? I've decided to create a paradise on earth which I shall call Scotland. It will have towering mountains full of deer and other game and rivers of clearest water brim full of trout and salmon. It will have grassy plains fit for sheep and cattle to graze, top wool and prime beef will be in demand all over the world. I shall give it fertile fields where an abundance of crops will grow.

Not least among those will be the barley from which a clear amber liquid will be produced that will make Scotland renowned.

Below those fields I will place coal to power industry as it develops. The oceans will teem with prime fish and shellfish and deep below them I shall place vast deposits of oil and natural gas.

Into this land I have created I will place strong, brave, handsome men and intelligent beauteous women who shall set an example to the rest of the world. Then I shall.......

Gabriel interrupted.....'But surely you are spoiling those people Lord, giving them far too much.'

God chuckled 'Ah but just you wait until you see the mongrels I'm giving them for neighbours!' And then He went off to create England!
