Duncan MacIntyre, Donnacha Ban nan Oran, is among the most famous Gaelic poets. He was out in the Rising in 1745. After the Battle of Culloden, he wrote a poem agains the Act proscribing the Highland dress and found himself in prison for that. He lived to an old age, dying in Edinburgh in 1812.
The MacIntyres of Badenoch descend from a bard of Clan MacIntyre whom William, 13th Chief of Clan MacKintosh, took under his protection in 1496.
