Origin of Name of Campbell
Clan Campbell Crest
There are various theories re the origin of the name "Campbell"; usually
accepted now is that it comes from the Gaelic "CAM BEUL" meaning "Crooked
Mouth" - the nickname of Sir Colin Mor's grandfather.
The version that gives to it a Norman origin - "De Campo Bello" - can be
ignored.
