On the Difference
Between Clan and Clan Society
Arms of the Federation of Clan Campbell Societies
The "CLAN"
ALL Campbells by birth or marriage and bona fide members of the
recognized Septs of the Clan are members of the CLAN CAMPBELL. It is one
of the largest and most influential Scottish clans under its Chief, the
Duke of Argyll. The Campbells have a long and glorious history and
Campbells enjoy a long and illustrious heritage of which they can be
proud.
The "CLAN SOCIETY"
Some members of the various Scottish Clans have organized "Clan Societies"
which usually have the objectives of bringing like-minded people together
to mutually assist each other in researching their family roots, in
gaining knowledge of the history and heritage of their Clan and of their
own forebears. The Societies also provide an organizational structure
through which members can get together for social purposes, to celebrate
Scottish Feast Days and have their Clan represented at Scottish Gatherings
and Festivals. Most Societies also provide their members with a periodic
"Newsletter: which is the core of communication between members.
THE CLAN CAMPBELL SOCIETY - NOVA SCOTIA was incorporated on April
10, 1980. It is a volunteer organization. Those who serve as officers
and directors are those who are willing to devote their time and energies
to making the Society as beneficial as posible for the members.
