World Wide Web (WWW)
The selection of business resources available by World Wide Web is
enormous. For example, the Yahoo index:
(http://akebono.stanford.edu/yahoo) has a heading for 'business.' Under this heading, Internet users will find business related topics with
the number of links beneath them (as of March first, 1995).

- What follows are examples of business directories which allow Internet
users to find businesses according to certain categories, and which
allow businesses to register and make themselves more accessible to
Internet users:

- Canada Net Pages states its goal:
"to be recognized throughout the
Internet community as the most comprehensive resource of Canadian
business and finance data available in the WWW."
This site contains links for the following headings:

This site allows users to search Canadian business information with
keywords, or to seach for particular businesses by name or location.
Open Market's Commercial Sites Index

- Open Market is geared towards developing products and services which
facilitate commerce on the Internet. It provides a Commercial Sites
Index, and Open Marketplace and an Internet Index. The Commercial Sites Index searches a large database by key words. Businesses can also register themselves with the Index.
Candian Internet Business Directory

- The Canadian Internet Business Directory can be searched by company
name, province or type of business. A search of Ontario listings
generated a listing with over two hundred entries on the first of
March, 1995.
The Internet Business Directory

- There is a fee for a business to register itself with the
Internet Business Directory at the rate of ten ($US) per month, or one hundred ($US) per year.]
- The Internet Business Directory allows users to search Usenet News
(from the prior five days), IBD listings and Resumes databases. The IBD
claims that its listings are comprehensive enough to restrict searches
to a maximum of two hundred and fifty hits.
The resume service is a free service which allows Internet users to
load their resumes into a directory which can be scanned or searched by
companies looking for prospective employees.
Mainsail Marketing's Direct Marketing World

- Direct Marketing World has a variety of kinds of directories, including
categories such as the following: ad agencies, computer services, copy
writers, direct marketing consultants, list brokers and much more.
Four11 Directory Services
http://www.four11/com/
- Four11 offers a searcheable index of Internet users and their Internet
email addresses. Four11 claims that the listing has more than half a
million listings at present. Users can freely list themselves in the
directory and search it for other users.
IndustryNet
http://www.industry.net/
- IndustryNet provides information and news for the manufacturing
industry. Internet users can access a variety of products from this
organization, including a tri-weekly IndustryNet Report, the
IndustryNet On-Line Marketplace, and the IndustryNet Regional Buying
Guide, which is a computer-based industrial buying guide.
The Institute of Management and Administration

- The Institute of Management and Administration contains a large amount
of business information under the following headings: Today's Business
News, Administration, Finance, Management, Sales and Marketing,
Resources by Industry, and a list of other business directories. The
IOMA also has an extensive selection of newsletters, which Internet
users can subscribe to at a special 'Internet discount'.
NetSearch

- NetSearch is a large searchable database which allows Internet users to
contact prospective clients, and allows businesses to freely register.
UNCAT

- UNCAT is an electronic catalog for listing businesses, nonprofit
groups, trade associations, government agencies and more. Non-profit
groups can register two titles for free; all other groups will be
charged a fee of ninety-five ($US) per title, and fifty ($US) per link.
World Wide Yellow Pages

- The World Wide Yellow Pages is much like the traditional Yellow Pages,
where users can look through indexed listings. Thw World Wide Yellow
Pages charges a fee of one hundred ($US) per year for advertising.
World Business on the WWWeb: A Directory

- Based at the University of Houston, this site conatins an extensive
listing of known WWW business sites, organzied by category.

Electronic Payment Systems
- Note:
- One of the main obstactes facing the exchange of goods and
services by means of the Internet is the method of payment. There are
many electronic payment systems which are currently in use over the
Internet which do not require Internet users to send their credit card
information over an open sytem. What follows is a sampling of
information sources about elecronic payment systems. All the pages
contain information about the payment method and how to obtain the
electronic money.
