Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm. In the fall, the hours will be extended to included Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8pm and Saturdays from 9am to 1pm.

Center Details: Opportunity Place is a place where individuals can receive employment support and other related services. It is a new community career resource centre located in Lower Sackville, sponsored by FLECs and HRSB and jointly funded by HRDC, NS Dept of Community Services and Bedford-Sackville Literacy Network. It is a new concept in resource centres, one in which a variety of service providers share a location and resources in an effort to deliver FREE services to clients more effectively and efficiently. Opportunity Place offers a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where our professional staff are always willing to go the extra mile - just for you! Don’t let another opportunity pass you by!
Program(s): There are 4 major components to Opportunity Place. They include: 1) Drop in Centre – Job Search Support and structured programming/workshops; 2) Skills Enhancement; 3) Access to information on other related services; 4) Community Outreach. Program descriptions: Support in resume/cover letter preparation and job readiness/job search techniques; Access to job leads/listing, labour market information, employer listings, application forms; Access to self assisted job search tools such as photocopying, mailing, faxing, telephones, Internet and computer usage; Information on career, educational, training and community resources; Limited counseling services. Career Assessment: A limited amount of personal counseling is available. The goal is to provide an opportunity for the individual to more clearly understand their strengths and begin to match those strengths with possible employment and career opportunities. Career Development: Individuals will engage in activities that will result in an individual career plan. This plan will allow the individual to realistically determine the steps to accomplish full employment in a career choice that fits their individual profile. Clients will develop a long-term action plan for employment and/or training that best meets their needs. Soft Skills Workshops: Workshop topics vary according to the obvious needs of specific groups. More intensive workshops dealing with pre-employment, as well as job maintenance issues will be developed/offered, as determined for target groups/purposes. Soft skills workshops may include, work place safety, confidentiality, personal management, problem solving, communication, team building, personalities and communication, Goal Setting, Decision Making, Stress Management, Time Management, How to Handle Anger, How to Improve Self Esteem, personal finance, customer service, conflict resolution, public speaking, computer skills, employers expectations/right and responsibilities of employees, workplace dynamics, entrepreneurship, networking, dress, speech, image, posture, body language, lifestyle management, as it relates to expectation of work, self motivation. Skills Enhancement: From time to time, various job readiness development components will be provided through the Centre. These components will be offered specific to identified employment opportunities and will be designed in conjunction with the private and public sector. Job readiness development components will be short workshops with specific content.  Computer Skills Enhancement: A computer area of 10 units allow for the provision of job readiness development opportunities that are both targeted and general in nature. The components will be short workshops with specific content. They may include, Computer Literacy, Surfing the Internet, E-Mail, MS Word, MS Access, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Publisher, Keyboarding. Access to Information on other Related Services: Opportunity Place has a Resource Library which includes materials and  brochures to take or borrow - Employer Application Forms, Employer Directories, Job Search – Information/Forms, Career Information, Youth Information, Educational Information, Job Vacancy Info, Entrepreneurship Info, useful website for information, resource lists relating to jobs and careers. Community Outreach: As a significant number of unemployed individuals are located in the outlying areas of the Bedford/Sackville catchment area. Services to clients in outlying areas will be delivered at community facilities and in the near future, through the integration of technology.
