Once nominations come in we have scheduled Elections for November 5th.

Roles of the Executive Committee (ExComm) include: Chair, Vice Chair,
Conservation, Outings, Programme, Youth, Membership, Secretary, Publicity,
Treasurer, Fund-Raising, Web Master. Sierra Club Chebucto Group is only
as strong as we make it. No more time commitment is asked of you beyond
that which you can make and is agreed upon.

Current Sierra Club-Chebucto Group ExComm goals are: 1) Supporting existing
projects in the Atlantic Region as much as possible without competition
amongst all the excellent, active environmental groups out there and lend
our Sierra Club name to reinforce their actions. 2) Build up the Sierra
Club--Chebucto Group to function as an Atlantic Chapter in- waiting. As
it is our borders as a Chebucto Group are the four Atlantic provinces.

Youth for Social Justice has organized a Information Picket at the Irving
station on the corner of Robie and Charles St. [in Halifax]

At 12 noon on Saturday (Tomorrow) Picketer will be handing out
information on the Irving Whale issue as well as demonstrating Irvings
Corporate Monopoly on the maritimes.

WE NEED YOU, to keep the media pressure on the Irvings WE NEED NEW FACES
AT PICKETS!.

So if you can come out we would appreciate it a lot. If you can't make it
tomorrow (Maybe because you have 18 hours of notice) but you would like
to hear when the next picket will be reply to me and you'll be the 1st on
your block to know.

		Hope to see you there,

				Cass

Further to #1 above, you might be wondering just what this election is all
about. The Sierra Club of Canada operates at 3 levels ... local (Group),
regional (Chapter) and national. The current election is for the
steering committee of the local Group ... Chebucto Group. Excomm members
are the leaders who make day-to-day decisions to keep the Group running.

I'm pleased to report that at the recent meeting of the Eastern Canada
Chapter (the Sierra Club regional Chapter that covers Canada east of
Manitoba) Chebucto Group was successful in our application for recognition
as an official Sierra Club Group. Now the only thing that stands in our
way is approval from Sierra Club Council in San Francisco, which should be
forthcoming soon. The Group's boundaries were set at all 4 Atlantic
provinces, making is the largest Sierra Club Group -- geographically -- on
the face of the Earth.

As well, at that same meeting I was elected by acclamation to the Eastern
Canada Chapter excomm, and appointed to the Sierra Club of Canada national
excomm, so the voice of Atlantic Canada will finally be recognised at those
levels. As your Chapter and National representative I invite anyone with
concerns about the Sierra Club to contact me [in addition to local
concerns, for which you have been welcome to contact me for some time
already!]
