- The Atlantic cooperative CED Institute is committed to building sustainable communities. It was formed to address a need for a more coordinated, professional approach to CED and ultimately to become an accreditation body for CED practitioners. The Institute has as partners and members community groups, practitioners, government and other institutions. The concept of community Economic development is not a new one. It dates to the days of the first fishing coops in Newfoundland to the Coady Institute in Antigonish. Community economic development extends beyond the creation of jobs and wealth, into the development of our social, education, cultural and political fabrics. This can be done through the creation of permanent community structures that allow people to play a more active role in controlling their resources.
