By car I made several local bald eagle nest-checks, but now the leafing = out trees are a very serious problem for such endeavours: (a) eagle nest north of Avonport, east of Oak Island Road: nest occupied = by at least one inactive large eaglet; (b) east Hortonville eagle nest: nothing visible in nest, but new leaves = make viewing difficult; (c) Horton Landing eagle nest: nest very hard to see now (except from = dyke heading north) =97 both adult eagles were present, but no eaglets = visible from there; (d) North Grand Pre, West Long Island, #387 farmhouse eagle nest: one = adult eagle perched near the nest, and at least one very large eaglet, = well feathered, in the nest; (e) also West Long Island, Leungs=92 eagle nest: at 4:20 p.m. an adult = was feeding a very large eaglet, and then the second big eaglet stood up = in the nest beside the first one =97 both eaglets were very large and = appeared to be very well feathered with huge wings; (f) Grand Pre, Miner Lane eagle nest above the rail-trail west from = Grand Pre Hist. Park: both adult eagles were at the nest, and one = appeared to be feeding on something, but no eaglets were visible; (g) Noggins Corner eagle nest (nw. of farm market): no eagles to be = seen; (h) East Wolfville Main St., Anglican Church: no eagles of any age = visible in late afternoon. JUNE 2/20 =97 lupines just starting to flower in east Wolfville, and = mountain ashes are now suddenly and lushly in bloom there too. JUNE 3/20 =97 New Minas Co-op bald eagle nest: no eagles seen at the = nest. JUNE 4/20 =97 New Minas sewage ponds bald eagle nest (on north bank of = Cornwallis River): 2 large fledglings in nest. Noggins Corner old eagle nest: 2 big eagles (eaglets?) in the nest (they = were just dark sillhouettes, so I couldn=92t tell whether either one was = an adult? Yesterday I couldn=92t see anything in the nest. Starr=92s Point bald eagle nest: no eagles visible, but difficult = viewing there. Lower Church Street bald eagle nest: at least one big fledgling in nest, = but I was unsure about seeing a second youngster there. JUNE 5/20 =97 Wolfville bald eagle nest at Anglican Church, east Main = St. =97 today in late afternoon a very big eaglet fledgling, all = feathered out apparently, was actively moving about and jumping and = flapping its big wings =97 very nice to see, but a bit worrisome = regarding possible accidents like falling off to the ground. --Apple-Mail=_0714B839-13E4-446B-806F-2349DD1FE873 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Type: text/html; charset=windows-1252 <html><head><meta http-equiv=3D"Content-Type" content=3D"text/html = charset=3Dwindows-1252"></head><body style=3D"word-wrap: break-word; = -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space;"><div = style=3D"margin: 0px;">JUNE 1/20 =97 a male Am. redstart seen, and choke = cherry in bloom.</div><div style=3D"margin: 0px; min-height: = 14px;"><br></div><div style=3D"margin: 0px;">By car I made several = <b>local bald eagle nest-checks</b>, but now the leafing out trees are a = very serious problem for such endeavours:</div><div style=3D"margin: = 0px; min-height: 14px;"><br></div><div style=3D"margin: 0px;">(a) eagle = nest north of Avonport, east of Oak Island Road: nest occupied by at = least one inactive large eaglet;</div><div style=3D"margin: 0px; = min-height: 14px;"><br></div><div style=3D"margin: 0px;">(b) east = Hortonville eagle nest: nothing visible in nest, but new leaves make = viewing difficult;</div><div style=3D"margin: 0px; min-height: = 14px;"><br></div><div style=3D"margin: 0px;">(c) Horton Landing eagle = nest: nest very hard to see now (except from dyke heading north) =97 = both adult eagles were present, but no eaglets visible from = there;</div><div style=3D"margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;"><br></div><div = style=3D"margin: 0px;">(d) North Grand Pre, West Long Island, #387 = farmhouse eagle nest: one adult eagle perched near the nest, and at = least one very large eaglet, well feathered, in the nest;</div><div = style=3D"margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;"><br></div><div style=3D"margin: = 0px;">(e) also West Long Island, Leungs=92 eagle nest: at 4:20 p.m. an = adult was feeding a very large eaglet, and then the second big eaglet = stood up in the nest beside the first one =97 both eaglets were very = large and appeared to be very well feathered with huge wings;</div><div = style=3D"margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;"><br></div><div style=3D"margin: = 0px;">(f) Grand Pre, Miner Lane eagle nest above the rail-trail west = from Grand Pre Hist.
