VIGILS FOR CHIMNEY SWIFTS IN 2020: MAY 11/20 (cont.) — evening mostly clear and calm — I drove to Wolfville’s Robie Tufts Nature Centre (RTNC), to look for chimney swifts, arriving there at 8:45 p.m. — Harold Forsyth had looked since 8:15 or so but had seen none — I mentioned that one of us should be at the other chimney, on the southwest corner of University Hall on the Acadia campus, so Harold tried that. I stayed at RTNC until 9:06 but saw no swifts. I did see a few flying midges for swifts’ food. MAY 16/20 — evening at RTNC, viewed by Tony Napoli — no swifts seen. MAY 17/20 — same as above, again Tony Napoli — no swifts seen. MAY 18/20 — evening at RTNC, viewed by Harold Forsyth — Harold saw a group of about 40 swifts pass by the chimney area several times at about 9:00 p.m. MAY 19/20 — Harold Forsyth joined me at UNIVERSITY HALL’S SW. CHIMNEY (Acadia Univ.) — I arrived at 8:33 pm (sunset was 8:40), and I immediately saw a flock of about 20 swifts coming and going at the area of the sw. chimney — Harold saw the swifts dropping into the chimney more clearly than myself, but we agreed that at least 30 swifts entered between 8:50 and 9:00 p.m. — I departed at 9:08. THANKS to Tony & Harold, and Cheers from Jim in Wolfville
