Not likely in this case though I do understand that they are generally much=
farther away then we think they are. The recorded call is one of the last =
I was able to hear. I had heard it initially from inside the house and it b=
egan to move off as soon as I went outside. In the time it took me to grab =
my phone and make a thirty second recording the direction changed considera=
bly and it moved completely out of hearing.=20

That coyote could have been half a km. or more from you!

Hi all:
=C2=A0
The call is actually that of a coyote.=C2=A0 The reason I know this is that=
I arrived home in LaHave at 23:00 this evening and heard the exact same ca=
ll at close range.=C2=A0 I then witnessed two coyotes running at full speed=
making this call past the house along the School Road and they continued d=
own the road at full gallop towards Fort Point still making the call.=C2=A0=
I've heard the coyotes in the distance here, but this is the first ones th=
at I've actually seen in LaHave.=C2=A0 I think I'll now be very careful abo=
ut going to the shed at night for the garbage. =C2=A0

This morning about 90 min before sunrise I heard what I first assumed was t=
he solicitation call of a Barred Owl. Unfortunately it was quite distant an=
d the only recording I was able to get is very noisy. I have cleaned it up =
some but since that often affects quality I have posted both it and an ampl=
ified but otherwise unaltered version in the same clip. I can=E2=80=99t thi=
nk what else it might be but it is not quite like anything I have found onl=
ine.
The call can be heard here https://www.xeno-canto.org/524494
