Wildlife Biologist, Sydney Bliss will be on hand to to update = her three-year results on this special subspecies of Savannah Sparrow. = Sydney, and her crew, have been doing a major study on migratory ecology = of these sparrows bringing her to Sable Island in summer and the = wintering grounds at Delmarva Peninsula in the US. Much of the work = includes satellite tagging and re-sighting efforts which is unveiling = previously unknown information on this very vulnerable subspecies. Our meeting starts at 7:30PM on Thursday, October 24th at the Nova = Scotia Museum of Natural History, 1747 Summer Street, Halifax, NS. = (Lower floor auditorium) There is no admission charge and as usual, open = to the public. There will be light refreshments available during and = after the meeting. Come by and enjoy. Our next meeting with be our Annual General Meeting on November 16th! Dave=20 This amazing project, led by Sydney Bliss with a little funding help = from the NSBS is beginning to answer some of the questions and unravel a = few mysteries regarding this very special Nova Scotian bird. Breeding = only on Sable Island, this beautiful sparrow has always faced challenges = to simply exist and as we see changes in climate and sea levels, the = information that is being gathered is crucial.
