Hello All,

I had a very entertaining start to the day, when at around 7:30am this
morning I looked out of my living room window, and saw what looked like a
long dark log in the waters of Halifax Harbour, just off the Casino. When
the log vanished my curiosity was peaked, and I grabbed my binoculars and
went onto my balcony for a further look. Sure enough, a few moments later
it surfaced again off Purdy's Wharf, and I could see that it was a Minke
Whale. I watched it for about 15 minutes or so, as it made its stately
progress down the harbour towards George's Island. It was still there
swimming round in circles off George's Island when I had to leave to go and
cheer on the grandkids in the Natal Day road races.
I have seen a Minke this far up the harbour once before about 15 years
ago, but it is certainly not a common sight. I am wondering if anyone else
happened to see it this morning?
Pat McKay
