I was in Bridgewat= er the other day and saw a juvenile bald eagle. As I was looking at it wit= h my binoculars, I spotted a small hawk way up circling like one would see = hawks during migration. It was high enough that if it went any higher it w= ould only be a speck in the air. I believe that it was a merlin or an Amer= ican kestrel as right after I saw it it flew into the sun before I could ge= t a positive ID and then I could not relocate it. By the actions of this h= awk, I believe that it was migrating. Opinions on this would be welcome. I had an email from Thom Drew of Moshers Island that he had a brown thrashe= r yesterday. This could have been the bird in Cherry Hill that overwintere= d there or possibly another bird that was blown in during the heavy winds t= he other day. Opinions on this are also welcome. I'd like to know if any = migrants showed up elsewhere in the province that might suggest an event wh= ere species were blown in from the states that might have been migrating. = I had American robins show up in the yard yesterday also after a long absen= ce. They could be birds that overwintered or maybe the start of birds on t= he move back here. Too early to determine this I guess. David Watson of East LaHave has had a fox sparrow there for a number of wee= ks now. James R.
