Dominic Cormier w= rote me about the WBL count being 198 when the eBird count is only 196 for = the same period and we were curious about the discrepancy as NS Bird Record= s entries should keeping the counts in sync and I also often defer to eBird= vetting on some of the rarer birds along checking with Dave Currie so our = lists should match. Dominic discovered eBird was missing 2 species which ar= e in eBird but were flagged as sensitive and therefor not counted in the eB= ird report-Long-eared Owl and Gyrfalcon. Dominic also discovered my spreadsheet was mistakenly counting Western Will= et as a species. I have the Willet species indicated with an "X" but I also= had the Western indicated with an "X" when it should have been a "P" so it= ended up counting Willet twice. And he discovered I was missing an Indigo = Bunting from December so we lost one and gained one to remain at 198. Winter Bird List (WBL) Depth of Winter List (DOWL) We picked up another 6 species for the DOWL to bring us to 124. Bonaparte's Gull - Kevin Lantz - Mason's Beach, Lunenburg County White-crowned Sparrow - Dave Currie - continuing at Arthur St., Dartmouth o= n Feb 2 Pine Warbler - Peter Oleskevich - continuing at his feeder in Port Williams= (thanks to Nancy Dowd for tipping me about this one) Red Crossbill - Steve McGrath - Catalone, Cape Breton Island White-winged Crossbill - Steve McGrath - Catalone, Cape Breton Island Pine Grosbeak - Billy Digout - French Cove, Richmond County, Cape Breton Is= land Here of some of the notables missing from the DOWL so far (I didn't know it= was going to be such a long list): Tufted Duck Spruce Grouse Northern Gannet Double-crested Cormorant Great Blue Heron (last was Jan 18) American Coot (where are all the old coots this year) Killdeer Ruddy Turnstone Dunlin (just a matter of time but a surprising miss far) Dovekie (say what) Common Murre Short-eared Owl Northern Saw-whet Owl (it is one the WBL from December but we don't have on= e yet this year) Black-backed Woodpecker Northern Shrike Brown Thrasher Cedar Waxwing Orange-crowned Warbler (another on the WBL from December but nothing for th= e year yet) Eastern Towhee Rusty Blackbird (another on the WBL but missing for the year so far) Winter Bird List (WBL) Dec 1 - Feb 29 Depth of Winter List (DOWL) Feb 1 - Feb 28 For more info and history or to download the full spreadsheet , visit our W= inter Bird List page at the Nova Scotia Bird Society website. https://www.nsbirdsociety.ca/library/resources/the-birds-of-winter --_000_SN6PR02MB5456BD96949B36D8CB3EB2DDB0680SN6PR02MB5456namp_ Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html xmlns:v=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" xmlns:o=3D"urn:schemas-micr= osoft-com:office:office" xmlns:w=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word" = xmlns:m=3D"http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2004/12/omml" xmlns=3D"http:= //www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"> <head> <meta http-equiv=3D"Content-Type" content=3D"text/html; charset=3Dus-ascii"= > <meta name=3D"Generator" content=3D"Microsoft Word 15 (filtered medium)"> <style><!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4;} @font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {mso-style-priority:99; color:blue; text-decoration:underline;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {mso-style-priority:99; color:#954F72; text-decoration:underline;} p.msonormal0, li.msonormal0, div.msonormal0 {mso-style-name:msonormal; mso-margin-top-alt:auto; margin-right:0in; mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto; margin-left:0in; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;} p.xmsonormal, li.xmsonormal, div.xmsonormal {mso-style-name:x_msonormal; mso-margin-top-alt:auto; margin-right:0in; mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto; margin-left:0in; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;} span.EmailStyle19 {mso-style-type:personal; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;} span.EmailStyle20 {mso-style-type:personal; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;} span.EmailStyle21 {mso-style-type:personal; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;} span.EmailStyle22 {mso-style-type:personal; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; color:windowtext;} span.EmailStyle23 {mso-style-type:personal-reply; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; color:windowtext;} .MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; font-size:10.0pt;} @page WordSection1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.0in 1.0in 1.0in;} div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;} --></style><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:shapedefaults v:ext=3D"edit" spidmax=3D"1026" /> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:shapelayout v:ext=3D"edit"> <o:idmap v:ext=3D"edit" data=3D"1" /> </o:shapelayout></xml><![endif]--> </head> <body lang=3D"EN-CA" link=3D"blue" vlink=3D"#954F72"> <div class=3D"WordSection1"> <p class=3D"MsoNormal">Our WBL remains at 198 but there are a couple of cha= nges.
