This is a multipart message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0005_01D47FFA.21700CD0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi All, The guest speaker at this month's meeting of the Southwest Chapter of the Nova Scotia Bird Society will be Mark Dennis who will speak about his month-long birding adventure in a talk entitled: "Australia - A Long Way from Home." The meeting will be held at the Yarmouth County Museum and Archives, 22 Collins St. in Yarmouth, on November 27 at 7:00 PM. The meeting is open to the public, and light refreshments will be served. For more information, contact me at j.f.kearney@gmail.com <mailto:j.f.kearney@gmail.com> . These notices are also good opportunity to learn more about the biographies of our local naturalists. Here is what Mark wrote about himself: "I started bird watching in 1966 and was fortunate enough to be able to chose 'Ornithology' as a high school exam option, which I passed with a grade 1, the only grade 1 I got! I graduated to more energetic birding in 1980, travelling to see rare birds, covering a local patch, working for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds as a volunteer on various reserves and taking part in breeding bird surveys. For 15 years I was a Countryside Ranger at a site in Nottinghamshire when I did weekly guiding, numerous site related presentations and surveyed and documented the site exhaustively. I was involved in the county bird society in the UK for 18 years including sitting on the county records committee and producing the annual report with a team. With my wife Sandra, we moved to Quebec in May 2003 and I quickly adopted a local sand pit at St-Lazare near Montreal as my patch. I subsequently wrote a site guide for 'the pits' which is free to download, one of eight eBooks that I have authored, most are free to download. We moved to Cape Sable Island in May 2015 and have never looked back. To aid visitors I have authored an electronic site guide to birding Cape Island which was initially free and is now available for the price of a cup of coffee. I am an ardent supporter of eBird with over 13,000 checklists logged to date. I have birded in 27 countries world-wide so far and hope to add a few more as time and finances allow."
