I was passing through the road that cuts around in Broad Cove, which goes b=
y the beach this evening. I saw a bird on the wires by the road. When I p=
ulled in so that I could look at it with my binoculars it flew off. It was=
the right size and color for a mockingbird, but I cannot rule out shrike o=
r wheatear as a possibility. There was a nice group of yellow-rumped warbl=
ers there of which the bird had been overlooking. I could not relocate the=
bird with much looking. I'll go back tomorrow for another sweep of the ar=
ea.
Dorothy Poole and I made a run through Port Clyde, Blanche and Bacarro. Ov=
erall it was quite quiet. We did see 47 species though. Numbers of yellow=
-rumped warblers and palm warblers were there. The only other warbler spec=
ies that we had was a common yellowthroat. We did have two turkey vultures=
at Port Clyde and for other raptors, sharp-shinned hawk, two merlins, two =
red-tailed hawks, two bald eagles and a northern harrier.
