Index of Subjects
Index of Subjects I heard a cuckoo here in Tupperville one afternoon last week. I was unsure which species, and had no time to go find it. Unfortunately, it did not present a second opportunity for me to seek it out. Perhaps it was merely visiting from Stanburne, but unlikely given the distance. I noted today that I still have a fairly good variety of birds singing in the woodlot, including at least two enthusiastic red-eyed vireos, a black and white warbler, an eastern wood pewee, common yellowthroats (several), an oven bird (late nester, I am guessing), American goldfinches (many), and I still have some resident merlins, though they keep a low profile in one corner of my woodlot next to an apple orchard. A veery was singing each evening until ~ 9:25 hr, but I believe he has stopped since Sunday evening. I will miss listening to him as I prepare for bed. Until next year. The flowering basswoods in the front yard have attracted many insectivores including the young red-starts that fledged from the woodlot. Singing its distinct “po-po-po” early this morning (recorded). I heard calls, not songs, over the past month but did not get recordings. The long time of its stay suggests a possible nesting. > > Nancy > E Dalhousie, Kings > > Sent from my iPad > --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus
