We have had a pair of Rose-breasted Grosbeaks since quite some time but nev=
er took note of when the female showed up. Two days ago two other males cam=
e with the pair. Stella did not get a good enough look to see if the two ad=
ditional males were young. Earlier this morning the adult male was at the f=
eeder and flew over to perch on one side of our property. (This individual =
sang while feeding!) Almost immediately another sang on the other side. (Th=
e female sings occasionally but a very soft song). Later a young male came =
to the feeder and spent some time feeding, unwary of us within 8-10 ft of i=
t. The incubation period is said to be 11-14 days and the fledgling period =
9-13 days, thus the min/max 20-27 days. So between May 18-25 for eggs to be=
laid. This species bonds on the breeding grounds so quite an early accompl=
ishment for this pair. It is speculated they may have second broods so ther=
e's certainly lots of time.
