While that doesn't rule out that they sometimes do, on examining the area up close i found there were fairly abundant, very small while worms of some sort, which may have been drawn to the bit of corn flour that comes with the larger pieces and in turn were drawing the robins. Hi Randy, Are you seeing the robins actually eating the corn or are they foraging for invertebrates? While invertebrates and fruit are their major food sources there are reports online of robins eating seed. The literature indicates there are records of robins eating vertebrates so they do exhibit opportunistic feeding behaviour at times. Cheers, Lance Lance Laviolette Glen Robertson, Ontario From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca [mailto:naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca] On Behalf Of Randy Lauff Sent: April 3, 2018 10:10 AM To: NatureNS <naturens@chebucto.ns.ca> Subject: EXTERNAL: [NatureNS] robins at my feeder? For the first time, at least as far as my middle-aged brain can remember, I have a few robins coming to feed on the cracked corn. _________________________________ RF Lauff Way in the boonies of Antigonish County, NS. ------=_NextPart_000_0707_01D3CB47.9BFDE2A0 Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html xmlns:v=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" = xmlns:o=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" = xmlns:w=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word" = xmlns:st1=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" = xmlns=3D"http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40" xmlns:ns1=3D"http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2004/12/omml"> <head> <META HTTP-EQUIV=3D"Content-Type" CONTENT=3D"text/html; = charset=3Dus-ascii"> <meta name=3DGenerator content=3D"Microsoft Word 11 (filtered medium)"> <!--[if !mso]> <style> v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape {behavior:url(#default#VML);} </style> <![endif]--><o:SmartTagType namespaceuri=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" = name=3D"State"/> <o:SmartTagType = namespaceuri=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name=3D"place"/> <o:SmartTagType = namespaceuri=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name=3D"PersonName"/> <!--[if !mso]> <style> st1\:*{behavior:url(#default#ieooui) } </style> <![endif]--> <style> <!--a:link {mso-style-priority:99;} span.MSOHYPERLINK {mso-style-priority:99;} a:visited {mso-style-priority:99;} span.MSOHYPERLINKFOLLOWED {mso-style-priority:99;} /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:Tahoma; panose-1:2 11 6 4 3 5 4 4 2 4;} @font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4;} @font-face {font-family:"Baskerville Old Face"; panose-1:2 2 6 2 8 5 5 2 3 3;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {color:#0563C1; text-decoration:underline;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {color:#954F72; text-decoration:underline;} span.EmailStyle17 {mso-style-type:personal; font-family:Calibri; color:#1F497D;} span.EmailStyle18 {mso-style-type:personal-reply; font-family:Arial; color:blue; font-weight:normal; font-style:normal; text-decoration:none none;} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --> </style> <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:shapedefaults v:ext=3D"edit" spidmax=3D"1026" /> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:shapelayout v:ext=3D"edit"> <o:idmap v:ext=3D"edit" data=3D"1" /> </o:shapelayout></xml><![endif]--> </head> <body lang=3DEN-US link=3D"#0563C1" vlink=3D"#954F72"> <div class=3DSection1> <p class=3DMsoNormal><font size=3D3 color=3Dblue face=3DArial><span = style=3D'font-size: 12.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:blue'>Rbins at times have fed in the area = where we put out cracked corn, seemingly preferentially, and I’ve = repeatedly watched closely thru binos to see if I could confirm they were eating the corn, = but was never able to.
