We picked up an awesome species for the WBL to bring us to 204 and 2 more f=
or the DoWL to bring us to 143, 12 short of our record breaking DoWL last y=
ear.
I should have noted that I didn=92t look at the picture of the bunting befo=
re I added it on the last update, I made too quick of a judgment when I not=
ed in the eBird alert that it referenced a picture so I assumed it was good=
.

Here are some of our biggest misses far followed by how many times the spec=
ies has made the DoWL in the 10 years it had been tracked. Note that the Do=
WL was not tracked in 2009/10 so I=92m not counting that year.
Pine Grosbeak (10 out of 10)
Baltimore Oriole (9 out of 10)
Hermit Thrush (9 out of 10)
American Coot (9 out of 10)
Swamp Sparrow (8 out of 10)
Dickcissel (8 out of 10)
Ruddy Turnstone (7 out of 10)
The Winter Bird List (WBL) counts species from December, January and Februa=
ry and are noted by a =93X=94 in the column on the spreadsheet.
The Depth of Winter List (DoWL) counts species from February only and are n=
oted with =93*X*=94.
NatureNS does not allow me to link to our winter bird page directly but you=
can find it following the directions at the link below where you can view =
and/or download the WBL spreadsheet. The downloaded version contains more y=
ears of data.
