Dear All,
I continue to be impressed by the ability of some trees to grow wood=
=20
given favorable conditions. Some years ago I cut a recently dead Cherry=20
for a neighbor who was getting a dead relative's house spruced up for=20
resale and saved the wood. This tree, a Cherry of some kind and probably=20
Black, was growing on the side of a steep bank over which lawn clippings=20
had been pushed for some years. It had split along one side and died;=20
perhaps winter injury from growing too late in the year. Before burning=20
one chunk I took a minute to count the rings: 12 annual rings at about=20
4-6 feet up and 16 cm radius; yes radius.
